montségur village

We made our way back down to the main plaza which, by mid morning, was awash with coach parties. A collection of historical sites all near to each other: Château de Foix, Château de Montségur, Château de Roquefixade, Mirepoix medieval town. Montségur Museum, in the village at the foot of the mountain, depicts Cathar "heresy" and the terrible crusade that followed in the 12th century. The church is also a great example of gender balance – with male and female saints depicted in pairs. You're going to love the main square in Mirepoix. The village of Montségur is a small village located south of France. Originally a family settled near a spring named Orjac always. I don’t know what it is about Montsegur but it feels as if the time is returning in this little village…and we will return there again ourselves soon. A stunning natural setting, the Ariège Pyrenees. From the top of the keep you can see the Pyrenees just as Gaston Fébus, one of the castle's famous owners, saw it when he was here. Nevertheless we returned to the laurel tree at the foot of the mountain and help a small ceremony there honouring the ancestors who had burnt to death here in 1244. At the heart of Catalonia, and amidst a landscape of mountains worn smooth and profiles, bold and imposing forms of the massif of Montserrat rise. In fact, some time ago the madonna in Montsegur was stolen. The Benedictine monastery of Montserrat sits nestled in the mountains. The solider knights were so moved by this courageous act that it is thought they asked for Consolentum in the last hours and went to be burned with the Cathars. Montségur-sur-Lauzon is a commune in the Drôme department in southeastern France. Legend had it that a number of survivors from the massacre in the village fled to Montserrat in Northern Spain. September 3rd 2007 There were two things I really wanted to see this year while in France; one being the Toulouse Lautrec museum in Albi, the other being the castle at Montségur where many Cathars spent their last days. Their oak pillars are over 800 years old.
